The Area
Metairie is an unincorporated community located in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain between New Orleans and Kenner. As the largest community in Jefferson Parish, Metairie functions as a major suburban center in the Greater New Orleans metropolitan area. The area is known for its commercial corridors, residential neighborhoods, and proximity to both New Orleans and the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway.
The community has grown steadily since the post-World War II era when returning veterans and their families moved westward from New Orleans seeking larger homes and suburban amenities. Today, Metairie serves as a hub for retail, dining, professional services, and recreation in Southeast Louisiana.
